Breast Enlargement

Breast Enlargement or Breast Augmentation Mammaplasty is undertaken by women who are not satisfied with their breast shape and size. This can be because of insufficient development, disease, trauma, or post-pregnancy loss.

Breast Surgery Consultation

involves a discussion about the woman’s reasons for wanting breast enlargement, the size and type of the implants to be inserted, the surgical approach to the breast, and whether they are to be placed above or below the pectoralis muscle. All breast implants are made with an outer envelope made of silicone and can be filled with silicone gel or saline (salty water).

Breast Surgery

is performed under general anaesthesia. A pocket is created under the breast or the muscle under the breast. The implant is then inserted into this pocket. Drainage tubes that take away excess fluid after surgery may also be placed in the pocket and are usually removed the following day. The surgery takes about 1.5 hours. A firm dressing or surgical bra is applied at the end of the procedure.

After Surgery

the woman can sometimes go home the same day as the surgery or may choose to stay overnight in the hospital. Pain relief is managed through prescribed pain medication. Drains if present are removed the following day.

A surgical bra is worn for 3 weeks. Swelling associated with the surgery settles after 6 weeks. Strenuous activities are avoided for 4-6 weeks.
