Arm Reduction (Brachioplasty)

Sometimes through a woman’s genetic make-up or with age or with significant weight loss, the tissues on the underside of the upper arm loose elasticity and hang down. Depending on the degree of tissue and the quality of the skin the tissue can be addressed by liposuction, liposuction and excision of skin in the armpit or surgical excision of the excess skin from elbow to armpit.

Arm reduction consultation

looks initially at the extent of the problem and the appropriate procedure is determined. If the patient is currently in the process of losing weight then the operative procedure is delayed till the patient’s weight loss is complete.

Arm reduction surgery

is usually performed under general anaesthesia but sometimes local anaesthesia +/- sedation is appropriate. The surgical procedure takes 1.5-2 hours. Whatever the surgical technique used a compressive bandage is placed over the arm at the end of the procedure.

After Surgery

the patient often goes home the same day. Pain relief is through prescribed oral medication. The scars of surgery are taped for 8 weeks and the patient wears a compressive bandage for 8 weeks.
